| The Burbank Police Officers' Foundation Downed Officers' Fund was established to support families of fallen law enforcement officers, and to honor our heroes for their service and the ultimate sacrifice they made to secure our safety. The Burbank Police Officers' Foundation Downed Officers' Memorial was dedicated to the following Burbank Officers: |
Deputy City Marshall Luther Colson
Killed in the line of duty on November 16, 1914 |
Deputy City Marshall Robert L. Normand
Killed in the line of duty on July 30, 1920 |
Officer Joseph R. Wilson
Killed in the line of duty on June 16, 1961 |
Officer Richard E. Kunkle
Killed in the line of duty on September 22, 1961 |
Officer Matthew Pavelka
Killed in the line of duty on November 15, 2003 |
| In 2003, Jay Leno, host of The Tonight Show contacted the Burbank Police Officers' Foundation. He proposed donating a car from his personal collection in order to raise funds to assist families of officers killed in the line of duty. Mr. Leno's hope was enough money would be raised to start a fund that would be available to those families that would inevitably be affected in the future. |
The Burbank Police Officers' Foundation teamed up with the Downed Officers Support Foundation to promote an opportunity drawing for a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1, graceously donated by Jay Leno. On August 20, 1006, at the 11th Annual Downed Officers' Support Ride, the Mustang opportunity drawing raised over $20,000.

| Since the commencement of the Downed Officers' Fund, the foundation has sadly assisted over six families in the So. California area due to officers killed in the line of duty. |
| To make the Foundation a visible and integral part of our community, our members are committed to contributing their time and resources to make Burbank a better place to live and work. |
